From Saturday, December 18, the Italian operator will offer its travel service at far lower rates than those of the French TGV.
A flaming red high-speed train in the colors of Italy. A new neighbor to which the SNCF TGV will have to get used to. Trenitalia, the historic Italian operator, is joining the Paris-Lyon-Milan line. It is the first company to challenge the competition in France when it comes to high speed. From December 13, the competitor is selling tickets at a discounted price: 23€ for a standard trip on January 28, 29€ In first class. On an identical route on the same day, it is more than double for the SNCF. “I live in Lyon and I know the prices on this line very well, which are quite excessive”, explains a regular traveler. “If we have the choice, we will take the cheapest”, confides another.
The Trenitalia line will guarantee two round trips per day, starting on Saturday, December 18. Inside, the train has four different classes, two of which are standard. “Each class offers the possibility of choosing two types of car. The silent one and the Allegro”, explains Roberto Rinaudo, CEO of Trenitalia France. Finally, there is a “top class” car, offered at 139€ for the Paris-Lyon route, with dedicated staff and an open-bar service.
