Many French people choose the van or the combi to travel independently. This way of life, which values the quest for the essential, is increasingly attractive.

Pierre-Antoine Boillon has been preparing his tour of Europe in a van for two years. He chose a rental van as his accommodation and transport solution, where every space is optimized. For 1600 euros for a fortnight, in June, it is an economical solution and a real nomadic lifestyle that he chooses. “What I value the most is flexibility, to tell yourself when you get up in the morning that you don’t know where you are going to sleep at night, the possibility of putting the van where you want, if you find a place magical”, enthuses the 30-something.

The van and its promise of a quest for the essential is gaining more and more followers. Frédéric Ferreira, rental company in Seine-Maritime, sees demand increasing. “The health crisis has amplified the phenomenon, since today you can very well take your vehicle and travel through France or even Europe while being completely autonomous”, he says. To rent a combi vintage 1970s for a long weekend, a couple of passionate paid 360 euros.
