For the “An idea for France” section on Thursday May 23, the France Télévisions teams followed a traveling orchestra which travels by bike through the countryside to bring music and cheerfulness.

Their idea for France is a traveling orchestra. A troupe of musicians travel by bike to offer concerts in the villages. In Drôme, at the foot of the Baronnies massif, the artists placed their bikes in a municipal building. The troupe toured for three weeks but they had to learn to play a whole repertoire together. Within the Oiseaux de sidewalk, the musicians come and go as they wish. The orchestra is never the same, but they are all united by the desire to brighten up the countryside.

When this troop arrives in a small village of 1,200 inhabitants, they are warmly welcomed. “I like the concept and above all, musically, we like it”, notes a resident. Twelve musicians from all over France, professionals and amateurs, are carrying out this tour. Those who have a job join the orchestra just for their vacations. Every year, the troop grows. In total, there are nearly 150 musicians, who travel across France in small groups and by bike. Get ready to welcome them, they may come to your home this summer.
