On July 26, the entire planet will have its eyes glued to Paris for the Olympic Games. The Seine and the monuments which border it will be the setting for an opening ceremony which is intended to be extraordinary, unique and accessible to all. The event and the planned 19 days of competition, with venues in the very heart of the capital, constitute an enormous challenge in terms of logistics, reception and security.
The events which will also be held in Lille or Marseille will have an impact on the daily lives of many French people. The Ile-de-France transport network is organized to transport millions of visitors. Employees who can do so are already encouraged to favor teleworking. Perimeters will be closed to host cities. The controversial implementation of algorithmic surveillance must support the presence of more than 30,000 police officers and gendarmes to face the risks of crowd movements, delinquency or terrorism.
On the sports side, the pressure is mounting and the objective is set: for our athletes to shine and put France in the top 5 nations in the medal table. Will the 2024 generation break records and climb the podiums?
Once the Olympics are over, it’s time for the Paralympic Games at the end of August, in the middle of the school year. Here again, expectations are high in terms of organization and performance also for athletes who will often achieve the journey of a lifetime.
