Transport and preparation costs | $75 credit for nearly 500,000 Quebec motorists

The series of collective actions against hidden dealer fees is coming to an end.

Nearly half a million Quebec motorists who purchased a car between November 2017 and January 2022 will receive a $75 credit without any additional proof under an agreement reached with the dealers concerned.

It was the firm Lambert Avocats which led this case. More than 150 of the 220 dealerships targeted have agreed to compensate anyone who bought or rented a car from them during this period. The signatories nevertheless continue to refuse to admit their responsibility.

Among other things, dealers are accused of having added transport and preparation costs to the prices displayed, a practice known for a long time, but which has been illegal since 2010 under the Consumer Protection Act.

The Superior Court of Quebec will rule on the validity of the agreement on June 4.
