Valérie Pécresse, LR president of the Île-de-France region, was the guest of “8h30 franceinfo”, Wednesday July 10, 2024. The context of the Olympic Games, the reconstruction of the right… She answered questions from Agathe Lambret and Jérôme Chapuis.

A transitional government to “manage the Olympics”

“I think we need a government, but a transitional government, to manage the Olympic Games”indicates the LR president of the Île-de-France region.

The left-wing alliance has just under 200 seats in the National Assembly, the presidential coalition has obtained around 165, the National Rally and its allies just over 140, while the absolute majority is 289. In the absence of an absolute majority, “It is the role of the President of the Republic to succeed in achieving a sufficiently broad consensus to be able to at least go through with the Games”she adds.

Valérie Pécresse regrets that the Republican right is scattered

“Today, the Republican right is scattered like a puzzle”deplores the LR president of the Île-de-France region. The 2024 legislative elections only allowed her party to obtain 38 seats, according to the official results of the Ministry of the Interior. The Republicans have been weakened by several years of defections, departures for the presidential coalition, including the delicate situation of the deputy of the Alpes-Maritimes Éric Ciotti, member of a parliamentary alliance with the extreme right but still president of the Republicans with whom the divorce seems nevertheless to be a done deal.

Yet, “France has never been so right-wing”assures Valérie Pécresse, for whom “all the ideas of the right are today ultra-majority in the country”. So according to her it is necessary “rebuild a right, and it is this right that can beat Marine Le Pen in 2027, or perhaps even in 2025 or 2026 if the presidential elections were brought forward”. Starting with the ministers of the current government: “We can only build something with Gérald Darmanin and Édouard Philippe if they leave Macronism, if they take stock of Macronism and return to an avowedly right-wing political family”she explains before confiding: “I think they are also a little disappointed with the experience”.

No question of dining with Jordan Bardella, according to Valérie Pécresse

Following the press revelation about a dinner which brought together the president of Horizons Édouard Philippe and Marine Le Pen, Valérie Pécresse, LR president of the Île-de-France region, declared: “No, I will not have dinner with Jordan Bardella”.
