Crossover on the Champs-Élysées in Paris. While the men’s Tour de France riders will finish after three weeks of racing, it is the women who will take over. This is the revival of the women’s Tour de France.
Departure from Paris for a final finish judged at La Planche des Belles Filles on Sunday 31 July. In all, eight stages over 1033 kilometers.
Among the competitors at the start, the Breton trained in Mayenne at the UC Sud 53 club, Amandine Fouquenet. The Arkéa team rider learned last Monday that she had been selected for this Tour de France: “it’s the revival of this event so I’m very happy to be at the start. I already participated in the Giro d’Italia last year so it was already difficult enough. This is the first edition so we don’t have a lot of benchmarks. The goal is first to finish. The last stage at La Planche des Belles Filles will certainly do some damage. And then, then, collectively, there are also desires to do well. I think I will be there mainly to help my team. You will have to give your all.“
A boost to women’s cycling
With this event organized by ASO like the men’s Tour, women’s cycling will gain momentum. The race will be broadcast daily on television. A chance believes Amandine Fouquenet: “this will give a boost to women’s cycling. We are going to talk a lot about it for a week and it will do a lot, I hope, for our sport.“
24 teams of six riders will be at the start, i.e. 144 competitors.
