Train accident near Girona in southern Catalonia: 12 injured

Big fear near Girona yesterday this Monday.
Around 4 p.m. a regional train that made the connection Port Bou – Barcelona hit a tree fallen on a catenary between the municipalities of Sils and Caldes de Malvella.
230 people were on board. The shock made 12 injured, mostly light. However, one of them had to be evacuated by helicopter to the hospital in Girona. The rescue plan with civil protection intervention has been activated. The other passengers, evacuated by firefighters and the Mossos de esquadra, ended their journey by coach.

Big damage on the line

Train traffic was disrupted over much of the Empordà at the end of the day. The line was seriously damaged according to the daily La Vanguardia, which recalls that a tree had already fallen on the tracks in this same sector a few weeks ago.
