Sunday afternoon, the Sûreté du Québec revealed the identity of Keven Girard, who lost his life in the drama. Her two boys also perished, but her daughter survived. Two other children from a Tadoussac family died. A total of five people were found dead.
“We do not want to experience this,” commented Nathalie Ross, mayor of Les Bergeronnes.
The group was fishing in Portneuf-sur-Mer, in the RCM of the Haute-Côte-Nord, when it was caught by the tide during a night fishing trip for capelin.

According to experienced anglers, the long sandbar can change its configuration depending on the water level. So you have to be very careful.
Shaken citizens
Between May and June, capelin roll by the thousands on the beaches of the Estuary and Gulf of St. Lawrence. For the regulars, the wait is an opportunity to meet on the shore since the shoal of fish arrives at night.
The four children were discovered lying on the ground near an overturned ATV. Keven Girard, for his part, was fished out of the waters of the river by divers from the Sûreté du Québec (SQ) on Saturday evening.
At least three small municipalities are hard hit by the tragedy. Mourning is also experienced in Les Escoumins, as well as within the Innu community of Essipit. The families know each other and the testimonies of solidarity multiply on the spot. “We all know each other,” repeated several citizens.
Stakeholders will be present in schools on Monday to offer support to students and teachers.
