Access closed on the Paris ring road

“There will be no total closure” of the Paris ring road, assured Laurent Nuñez, Paris police prefect, a few hours before the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games in Paris. “The eastern part of the ring road will be very disrupted with a certain number of access points closed” in the afternoon, he said. The organization of this ceremony, combined with the departures on vacation, suggests a paralysis of road traffic in the capital. Laurent Nuñez renewed his recommendations “not to cross this area, Paris and its agglomeration, for people who come from outside”.

The Paris police prefect assured that “everything is ready” for the opening ceremony. “The barrier system is already completely in place. It will be extended again from 1 p.m. for the ceremony.”he said. Laurent Nuñez reminded the spectators who will attend the ceremony of the importance of respecting the schedules: “We absolutely, absolutely must start arriving from 3:30 p.m. At 6:30 p.m., we won’t let anyone through.”he warned.

A “very high level” security device

“There are no specific threats against the Games, but there is a high-level terrorist threat in our country”said Laurent Nuñez, Paris police prefect. “There will be a very high level of security for the ceremony”with 45,000 gendarmes and police officers “for the whole day”he said. There will also be 20,000 security agents mobilized and 10,000 soldiers from Operation Sentinel, to ensure the security of the Olympic Games starting Friday, July 26. Snipers positioned on rooftops and the Raid on the Seine in particular, will be ready to “detect malicious action as quickly as possible” And “put an end to it immediately”explained the police prefect.

Israel also warned France of potential threats “terrorist attacks” against its athletes and tourists by groups supported by Iran. The athletes and the Israeli delegation are subject to special protection from France. Beyond the terrorist risks, France protects itself from cyberattacks, which have historically been very frequent during the Olympic Games: “The cyber risk is very significant”confirmed Laurent Nuñez. “At the police headquarters, we have significantly strengthened the security of our information systems. We are preparing for this.”summed up the police prefect.
