The Lévisienne saw her career come to an end in the quarter-finals. She lost her two duels against Colombian Martha Bayona Pineda, eventual bronze medalist, by gaps of 0.05 and 0.07 seconds.
Genest, who posted the third fastest time in qualifying, had first defeated Belgian Nicky Degrendele in the round of 16 with a lead of 0.17 seconds.
Alberta’s Kelsey Mitchell dominated the competition from start to finish to claim a second medal in as many days. In the final, the Olympic champion easily defeated Dutchman Laurine van Riessen in two heats to claim gold.
Lauriane Genest will return to action on Sunday for the Keirin event.
Guillemette finishes 17and
For his part, Mathias Guillemette reached the final of the elimination race, where he was the eighth track rider cut to finish in 17and rank.
The 20-year-old Trifluvien is in his second participation in a Nations Cup. Last summer, he took advantage of the absence of several Olympians from the Canadian team in Cali, Colombia, to have his first experience and win a silver medal in the team pursuit.
On Friday, a few contenders were quickly eliminated in the Grand Finals. This is the case of the Dutchman Roy Eefting, winner of his group in the qualifications, who was the first to fall in combat.
Mathias Guillemette hung on and resisted for several laps, even though he was at the end of the pack. He withstood the cut on a few occasions before admitting defeat.
World champion Elia Viviani of Italy won the gold medal. Dutchman Yoeri Havik and German Tim Torn Teutenberg followed on the podium.
Guillemette had taken the 11and rank of his heat of qualifying earlier in the day. The top 12 athletes from each of the two rounds advanced to the final.
Mathias Guillemette will be in the Omnium presented on Sunday.
