“Traces”, Will Régnier | The duty

First album as leader and composer for Montreal drummer Will Régnier, who, in his journey as an accompanist as on this album, moves from jazz to folk and pop-rock, here highlighting his affection for rock progressive — here and there, a melodic motif tugs at our ears, reminding us of something familiar, of something already heard elsewhere, making listening even more comfortable Traces. His quartet — Marcus Lowry on guitars, Yannick Anctil on piano and Alex Le Blanc on double bass — expresses themselves with elegance on these nine original compositions, Anctil’s harmonious solo elevating the seven minutes ofBetween the linesthe carnal performance of Lowry giving tone to Not a Real Place, one of the most nutritious with the dynamic title song. We come back to this album for the atmosphere that emerges from the pieces, contemplative but colorful, the fruit of an admirable work of orchestration and production. In concert on March 23 at Sala Rossa.
