Toys “R” Us will open nine new stores in Canada

(Toronto) Toys “R” Us will open nine new stores in the former locations of the defunct Bed Bath & Beyond brand, in addition to two new Babies “R” Us stores.

In a press release, Doug Putman of Putman Investments said his company had acquired the majority of Bed Bath & Beyond locations across Canada after the retailer shut down operations north of the border.

Putman announced earlier this month that it was launching an all-new home goods retailer called Rooms + Spaces at 21 former Bed Bath & Beyond and Buybuy Baby locations.

Putman announced on Wednesday that the new Rooms + Spaces will also host Toys “R” Us stores located inside their locations.

The expansion will bring the total number of Toys “R” Us and Babies “R” Us stores nationwide to 107.

Seven of the new stores will be in Alberta and British Columbia, while the others are located in Ontario, Quebec and Nova Scotia. They should open during the summer or in October.
