Ottawa’s City Manager says all towing companies under contract with the City have refused to tow the large trucks blocking downtown Ottawa for the second week in a row.
Steve Kanellakos says the consensus seems to be that a lot of companies don’t want to do the job because the heavy-duty truck industry is a big part of their revenue and they don’t want to hurt their business in that industry.
He adds that the City is reviewing the contracts to see what recourse it can have in this unprecedented situation.
Since January 28, trucks have been blocking the streets of Ottawa and sounding their horns in protest against mandatory vaccination.
Meanwhile, the Mayor of Ottawa has asked other major Ontario cities to help, and the City has called on companies from Eastern Ontario.
According to Kanellakos, towing companies continue to do other work for the City of Ottawa, including towing full-size vehicles.
