Tower of the head of Mont Garnier

Direction Lake Beuil

This local circuit brings together all the clichés of Haut Cians: small cozy paths weave their way through vast larch forests, quiet valleys lead to panoramic and clear passes… and the modesty of the elevation does not affect the morale of the hikers, nor their calves!

But don’t expect to dive into the pure waters of Lake Beuil, which partially dried up at the end of the 19th century!

To solve the water problems of Beuil, a project to catch the lake was born.

Deputy Bischoffsheim released funds and work began; alas, the tunnel collapsed and the waters of the lake poured out for three days!

It never filled up again, but we can still detect the level it once reached.

At the bottom of the lake, old fossilized trunks preserved in the peat were found: they bear witness to the vast forests that occupied these places and comprising subjects 40 m high and 5 to 6 m in circumference!
