France is currently going through an unprecedented episode of drought, in the heart of winter. This pushes the prefectures to take water restriction measures in certain municipalities.

The dry season, in the middle of winter. 32 days without rain, France is going through an unprecedented period. It is considered very worrying by the government. “France is on high alert. This is why tomorrow, February 23, I will have the opportunity to chair the drought anticipation committee“, assured Christophe Béchu, Minister for the Ecological Transition. This emergency meeting should make it possible to put in place, as of next week, water restrictions.

Crops at risk?

Some municipalities are already affected. Residents are forced to adapt. In the Bouches-du-Rhône, the prefecture prohibits watering the lawn and the vegetable garden from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., washing their car and filling their swimming pool. The green spaces of the municipalities concerned are concerned. Farmers fear the restrictions will jeopardize their crops.
