The Ukrainian authorities are preparing, Tuesday, April 12, for the fall of Mariupol, martyred city and symbol of resistance. An assault by the Russian army in the east of the country would be imminent.
On images from Mariupol (Ukraine) on April 7, Russian strikes fell on an industrial complex. It is one of the last pockets of resistance of the Ukrainian forces, which defend the city, besieged for more than 40 days. The Russian vice is tightening on the strategic port of the Sea of Azov. On social networks, Ukrainian fighters have sounded the alarm: ammunition is running out and the battle “will probably be the last”.
Volodymyr Zelensky, President of Ukraine, called for weapons and warned of the threat of chemical weapons use by the Russians. “We take this very seriously”, he added. On the images broadcast on pro-Russian social networks, tanks marked with a Z are deployed in Mariupol. In the devastated streets of the city, the inhabitants are worried. “We thought the worst thing was an aerial bomb, but actually the most terrifying thing is the tanks,” says one of them, Yevheniya.
