Europeans are working on solidarity to deal with Russian gas cuts. An embargo on oil could be decided within a few days by the EU.
A meeting has been urgently decided for Monday, May 2, following Russia’s decision to cut off gas to Poland and Bulgaria, two countries that have not paid their bills in roubles. Many Member States will find themselves in the same situation, hence the need for coordination. The aim of the meeting is to take stock of gas stocks, to ensure that they are replenished as quickly as possible and to find solidarity mechanisms.
In addition, the European Commission could make its proposals tomorrow on a sixth package of sanctions. There will be talk of an embargo on Russian oil. Long hostile to this measure, Hungary and Germany would now be rather favorable to this option which could be taken within a few days, specifies the journalist from France Télévisions, Julien Gasparutto.
