The government wants to end a tax system that it considers too advantageous for owners who rent seasonal accommodation on the platforms. This type of rental is booming and poses many housing problems.
Tourist furnished rentals are in the sights of Bercy. The government would like to tax property owners more. Today, they benefit from a fixed reduction of 71%, more than for other types of rental. This tax niche was questioned by Bruno Le Maire, Friday, June 9. “There is no reason to keep this taxation which leads to excesses“, indicated the Minister of the Economy on BFMTV. These excesses are all the more palpable as the number of rental properties has exploded. In ten years, we would have gone from 30,000 advertisements to 750,000 on the AirBnb site.
Towards a decision in October
In Arès (Gironde), these tourist accommodation which are multiplying are beginning to pose a problem for the mayor, Xavier Deney. He laments:We are a city that is dying, quite simply because we don’t know how to keep our youth. There are accommodations that are taken for two or three months“. A whole ecosystem has been created around this market with concierges who take care of handing over the keys. For a professional in the sector, taxing owners more will not make them give up. For their part, the platforms point out that the renters are not speculators and that the median income is 3,900 euros per year.The government will make its decision in October.
