Will the roof of the Montreal Olympic Stadium finally be replaced? The Minister of Tourism, Caroline Proulx, is expected to unveil on Monday an estimate of the costs associated with the construction of the roof and the technical ring of the Stadium, according to information collected by Radio-Canada.
The minister will make an “important announcement for the economic development of eastern Montreal and Quebec” on Monday morning, notably in the company of the CEO of the Olympic Park, Michel Labrecque.
Contacted by The dutythe office of Mme Proulx did not wish to comment on the facts put forward by Radio-Canada. The Olympic Park also did not want to comment on this information.
According to the state company, the current roof would be dismantled in order to replace the technical ring which supports the structure of the Stadium, thus making it possible to construct a new roof. This project is expected to last four years.
The evaluation of the “cost of inaction” in relation to the cost of undertaking the work would also have demonstrated that it is more lucrative to renovate the Stadium than to demolish it, although Quebec has never considered such a scenario. , indicates Radio-Canada.
Daily life The Press had suggested a few weeks ago that the stadium roof renovation project would cost taxpayers at least $750 million, information that Mme Proulx then refused to confirm.
How much does an operation cost?
The Ministry of Tourism declared last December that Quebec would study the Olympic Park business case in January. Once this is done, he could subsequently reveal the cost of the possible stadium roof replacement project.
Since the beginning of December, the stadium’s playing area has been closed due to exploratory work undertaken as part of the development of the business case. This work notably prevented CF Montreal from holding its training sessions in January. The Montreal team will also not be able to present its first match of the season in the spring.
Earlier this fall, Prime Minister François Legault clearly stated his intentions to install a new roof, saying he wanted to restore the Olympic Stadium to its former glory, even if he knew the operation would be costly.
Monday’s press conference will also be in the presence of Chantal Rouleau, Minister responsible for Social Solidarity and Community Action.
