Prevented from exporting their grain through the Black Sea because of Russian ships, Ukrainian companies began selling to Poland, which caused prices in the country to fall and angered farmers.
Polish farmers are being put in difficulty by the conflict in Ukraine. “Like Ukraine can’t exporting its cereals via the Black Sea, due to the war with Russia, it ultimately has no other choice than to flood the neighboring Polish market. Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said : “We will defend the Polish farmer, whatever the speeches we hear in Brussels, Berlin or Kiev.“
Ukraine threatens to refer to the WTO
Ukraine threatens to seize the World Trade Organization (WTO)while Warsaw plans to maintain theembargo and even to extend it to Ukrainian honey. Unable to export through the Black Sea because of Russian ships, last year Ukrainian companies began selling to Poland. Since then, grain prices have fallen by 30% according to Wieslaw Grynone of the leaders of the farmers’ protest. But for him, a new three-month embargo will not be enough. For the moment, the capacities of Polish ports and rail are not sufficient to export Polish products themselves. To increase them, the government requested one billion euros in European funds.
