“I feel like things are going to get messy this morning, I ask you for a little discipline.” It is with these words that Richard Martineau began his meeting of the hour with Jean-François Lisée and Thomas Mulcair on Friday.
The QUB radio host has enough experience to sense what was going on between Thomas Mulcair and Jean-François Lisée. And he was not wrong.
“Thom speaks about me directly, and he has facts that are contrary to reality,” Jean-François Lisée immediately proclaimed.
At the heart of the dispute between the two men, there is this column written by the former leader of the NDP in the Journal de Montréal where the niqab is discussed. Thomas Mulcair affirms that some politicians hold a unifying speech, while others try to divide. And to prove his point, Mr. Mulcair appears to be directly targeting the former politician, while he was in the race for the leadership of the Parti Québécois, in 2016.
“I know what is at stake here, from my point of view,” said Thomas Mulcair.
The least we can say is that we have rarely heard of such a stormy encounter between the two men. It now remains to be seen whether this altercation will really end in front of the Press Council.
