The food voucher was intended to help households in difficulty to access products from short circuits. The government could choose efficiency, giving a boost to the most disadvantaged without checking the contents of the shopping basket.
The food voucher, Emmanuel Macron’s promise for the most modest, was to be used to buy organic or local fruits and vegetables. Faced with inflation, the government could extend the measure to all food products. Instead of monthly aid, it could be a single payment, between 50 and 150 euros depending on the source, in the form of a transfer or a food voucher. “It must be able, as far as possible, to support French agriculture and allow the French, especially the most modest, to have access to quality food”believes Jean-Noël Barrot, MoDem deputy for Yvelines.
For specialists, the device is difficult to implement on the shelves. “It’s surgery to define the right scope for the products that would be valid for this food voucher. (…) As soon as it becomes very complicated to implement, as a general rule, history shows us that it doesn’t is not implemented”, alarm Olivier Dauvers, retail specialist. The details could be presented by the end of June, for a vote during the summer in the National Assembly.
