Emmanuel Macron confirmed his plan to retire at age 65, on the evening of Wednesday October 26, on France 2. However, he opens the door to retirement at age 64, under certain conditions.

Among the French emergencies for Emmanuel Macron, the pension reform. He again specified his calendar on the evening of Wednesday, October 26, on France 2: 63 years old by 2025, 64 years old by 2028, and 65 years old by 2031. The president does not say he is opposed to a starting age at age 64 instead of 65, provided the contribution period is extended. He also undertook to take into account long careers, arduous work and to abolish special regimes.

The French have contrasting opinions. “It’s been dragging on for so long, this story of pension reform, it’s always passed from president to president. (…) And I think that today Mr. Macron, he must do it”says a man. “A lot of companies don’t want 57-year-olds, they prefer to invest in young people”notes a passerby. “I don’t think that’s the meaning of life, to work too much, and all the time, and always”, comments another. To pass his reform in an Assembly without a clear majority, Emmanuel Macron has reached out to anyone who will want to take it.
