No more trash cans on the Lérins Islands, off Cannes, since the 1st July. On Sainte-Marguerite Island, tourists are invited to leave with their waste. How do they react?

Before even landing, tourists are already warned: the waste must be brought back to the mainland at the end of their visit. Since the beginning of summer, there is no plus no garbage cans on Sainte-Marguerite Island, the largest of the two Lérins islands, opposite Cannes (Alpes-Maritimes). The 300 baskets that were placed on the island have been removed. The objective: to force tourists to return with their waste, to avoid illegal dumping.

The operation was launched at the beginning of the summer. To At that time, the message was struggling to get through. A month and a half later, tourists were more far-sighted. “It’s part of the game, we’re here to enjoy, and I think it’s normal that we can bring back our waste”, said a tourist. But not everyone adopted the right gestures. On the island, there are still papers, plastic bottles and cans. However, the results remain positive.
