Authorities on the Indonesian island of Bali said Tuesday they were searching for a man of foreign nationality who was filmed naked meditating in front of a Hindu temple in a video that went viral.

The island, popular with travelers from around the world, has pledged to crack down on inappropriate behavior by some tourists after a series of incidents, including disrespectful acts towards Bali’s predominant Hindu culture.

The police identified this man but neither his nationality nor his name were communicated while the individual is still wanted.

“We are continuing our investigations into this incident,” said Tedy Riyandi, head of the immigration office in a press release sent to AFP.

The immigration office is making “efforts to contact the social media account of the wanted man, but so far there has been no response,” Mr. Riyandi said.

The video went viral after being reposted several times by a Balinese influencer, Ni Luh Djelantik.

Once again stormed by tourists after the wave of Covid-19, the island of Bali regularly expels tourists for behavior deemed inappropriate.

In June, a Danish woman was expelled for exhibitionism while riding a motorcycle and in April a Russian was expelled from the country for publishing a photo of herself naked in front of a sacred tree.

In June, under pressure from the island’s immigration office, the local government published a guide for tourists wishing to visit Bali.
