Every year, 60 million tourists discover New York City in the United States. However, traveling to the Big Apple might prove more difficult. In fact, since September 1, the municipality has introduced a restrictive policy for short-term rentals.

Its energy and magnetism attract tourists from all over the world. Only, accommodation in New York (UNITED STATES) could become a headache for the 60 million visitors who, every year, pack their bags in the city that never sleeps. In the beautiful neighborhoods of Manhattan, a owner rents a three-room apartment for years on Airbnb. It costs around 300 euros for six people. The owner has been flirting with illegality since the rental rules were tightened.

Very high rents

“I can only rent one room and for two people only. (…) I also have to stay here.”deplores the owner. If she fails to comply with these obligations, she risks a fine of $5,000. Since September 1, New York has implemented the most restrictive rules in the world for short-term rental platforms. For those who live in New York year-round, the city is very expensive. Renting a three-room apartment costs on average 3,500 euros per month. According to an anti-Airbnb activist, the platforms have caused prices to skyrocket.
