Tour de France | Katarzyna Niewiadoma wins by four seconds

(L’Alpe d’Huez) Poland’s Katarzyna Niewiadoma won the women’s Tour de France by four seconds on Sunday.

Niewiadoma did enough in her battle with rival Demi Vollering on the final stage of the Tour, towards Alpe d’Huez.

Vollering was part of a breakaway with fellow Dutch rider Pauliena Rooijakkerts after the Col du Glandon. She accelerated powerfully in the final kilometres to win the eighth and final stage of the Tour.

Niewiadoma, however, finished fourth on the stage, securing her first career women’s Tour de France title. The Pole completed the tour in 24 hours, 36 minutes and seven seconds.

Quebecers Olivia Baril and Simone Boilard respectively took the 41e and 48e overall standings. Canadian Alison Jackson finished 105the rank.

Dutchwoman Marianne Vos took the green jersey for total points, while Belgian Justine Ghekiere took the polka dot jersey as best climber.
