Tour de France 2022: the route of the 16th stage between Carcassonne and Foix

This 16th stage of the Tour de France, 179 kilometers long, has four climbs, two of which are category 1 and an opportunity for the Green Jersey to collect points with a sprint. The Tour de France 2022 peloton will leave Carcassonne this Tuesday July 19, heading for Foix, in Ariège.

Monday July 18, rest in the Aude

After two arrivals in Carcassonne and Quillan in 2021, Aude will therefore still benefit in 2022 from the spin-offs of the Tour de France, with many hotel rooms reserved in the urban areas of Narbonne and Carcassonne.

Tuesday July 19, the 16th stage from Carcassonne to Foix

After the rest day, the start of the last week of the Tour will therefore be given from Carcassonne. The finish of this stage will be traced in Foix. The prefecture of Ariège had first been mentioned for a departure, but it will therefore be an arrival.

For this step, no less than four ribs, two of which are category 1 and a sprint: the Côte de Saint-Hilaire over 1.5 km at 6.6% (category 4), the Col de l’Espinas over 5.3 km at 5% (category 3), the Port of Lers at 1,517 m above sea level, 11.4 km at 7% (category 1) and the Mur de Péguère at 1,375 m above sea level, 9.3 km at 7.9% (category 1).

The comment of Christian Prudhomme, director of the Tour de France, “the entry into the Pyrenean massif could appeal to escapees… subject to very good mountain dispositions, of course. Because to hope to raise the arms in Foix, it will first be necessary to hold the shock while going up to the Port of Lers and then make a difference in the Mur de Péguère.”
