Recently crowned European champions, Toulouse won their third double against a totally powerless Bordelo-Béglais, who suffered the biggest defeat (59-3) in history in the final of the French championship.

A humiliation. The Bordelo-Béglais did not manage to stop the Toulouse steamroller in a one-sided final. Stade Toulouse, led by its captain Antoine Dupont, won its 23rd Brennus shield on Friday June 28, winning without difficulty in Marseille against Union Bordeaux-Bègles (59-3). With nine tries, the Toulouse residents achieved the biggest victory in history in the final of the French championship.
Their desire to go and flatten was evident from the start of the match. Without any real opposition, Stade Toulousain logically opened the score in the 6th minute thanks to Antoine Dupont (7-0). Like other unleashed players like Jack Willis and Alexandre Roumat, the offensive efforts were quick to bear fruit again. And even doubly so, less than fifteen minutes later, with a try scored by Peato Mauvaka (15-3, 20th), followed by a very nice overhead kick by Antoine Dupont (22-3, 23rd), who scored his double before the half-hour mark.
Ruthless and insatiable, the Toulousains felt no pity for the Bordelo-Béglais who were sticking their tongues out after having gone through the play-offs. If the pace of the match then slowed down considerably after the break, a consequence of the inability of the UBB to exploit the flaws in the game of the managerial Toulousains.
We had to wait until the hour mark to see the match once again shift into a hellish pace for UBB. Thomas Ramos, masterfully served by a pass at the foot of Romain Ntamack, scored the fourth try of the match (30-3, 63rd), quickly imitated by Julien Marchand in the 68th minute (35-3) and Blair Kinghorn two minutes later (42-3).
With only ten minutes left to play, the Bordelo-Béglais believed their ordeal was over. But that was without counting on this Toulouse collective, who enjoyed themselves until the end of the meeting. Thomas Ramos (47-3, 74th), David Ainu’u (54-3, 79th) and Ange Capuozzo, author of a crazy race (59-3, 80th+2), further worsened the score. Heads down, the Bordelo-Béglais showed themselves to be messy, uninspired and constantly out of time, dominated by a Toulouse stadium which was evolving in another dimension.
The Toulouse residents therefore kept the Brennus shield, their 23rd. With this historic victory, Ugo Mola’s players even won their third double after 1996 and 2021, since they were also crowned European champions for the sixth time a little over a month ago.
It is “an incredible season”greeted Antoine Dupont, the man of the match. We have to savour this moment and realise what we have done tonight,” said the scrum-half, as he will join the French rugby 7s team in a week, competing for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. With confidence at its best.
