It was an expected announcement. Nearly a month after the press release from the French Rugby Federation (FFR), the Rugby Club Toulonnais, in turn, developed on Monday August 5, its sanctions against Melvyn Jaminet, the club’s fullback, at the heart of a legal case for having posted a video on social networks in which he claims to want to attack “to the Arabs”, early July. In its press release, the Var club announced a “disciplinary suspension” the 25-year-old and has aligned himself with the 34-week suspension imposed on the player by the French Rugby Federation (FFR).
A sentence which could however be reduced. “Eight of the 34 weeks of suspension may be replaced by activities of general interest which must be carried out before July 31, 2025”specifies the RCT, as the FFR had done. According to the Var club, the player whose contract was “substantially modified”gave “his full agreement to the execution of this measure.”
“Whatever the circumstances in which the incident occurred, the RCT has suffered considerable damage to its image and its interests, both with its public and its players and colleagues.”also wrote the Var club, explaining that it East “thus able to take a set of measures with regard to the player Melvyn Jaminet while betting on the success of a rehabilitation plan”.
The day after the Blues’ victory in Argentina on July 6 (28-13), the first match of their tour in South America, Melvyn Jaminet posted on Instagram, before deleting it, a video in which he made racist remarks. In an apology message published on his account, the player said “deeply sorry and ashamed of (his) words”.
