Toulon continues to dive. Falling in the last minutes in its lair against Exeter for its entry into the Champions Cup last weekend, the RCT suffered a second successive defeat at the wire, at Northampton (22-19), Friday December 15. The Varois fell for a last try conceded at 13 against 15 three minutes from the siren, which put the English back in front and gave them victory.

Before this suspenseful end to the match, the Toulonnais, trailing at the break, held on to come back, carried by their recruits. On the legs, Melvyn Jaminet had revived his team by scoring his first European try under his new colors, before making a nice drop ten minutes from the siren to give his team three points in advance and a little breathing space. But the Toulonnais lost everything in the last five minutes, with two yellow cards in a few seconds, and a defense finally overwhelmed.

With two defeats and two small (bonus) points on the clock, the Toulonnais are already in danger in group 3. Under pressure, they will welcome the Irish from Munster on the next day, January 13.

The Bayonnais in failure

In the Basque Country, learning about the Champions Cup continues for the Bayonnais. A week after its impressive draw on the Munster pitch, Rowing was beaten in front of its home crowd for a small point by the Glasgow Warriors (12-11), Friday evening, during the second day of the group stage.

Dominant in the first period, but not necessarily rewarded (only one point ahead at the break), the Bayonnais lost the thread of the match after returning from the locker room. Growing in physical strength, the Scots scored the only try of the second act, which allowed them to take the lead. Camille Lopez and her teammates may regret the points lost at the foot by Reece Hodge (0/2), while he twice had the opportunity to put his own back in front.

With this setback, Bayonne is provisionally fourth in pool 3, but could be overtaken by Munster if the Irish succeed (against Exeter on Sunday). For the Basques, the next outing will be in Northampton, with the solid leader, for the moment solid leader of the group, for the 3rd day.
