The Top 14 are suffering the full brunt of the new wave of Covid-19 contaminations. The Toulon rugby club announced on Friday that it had detected “many cases” of Covid within its workforce, two days away from a Top 14 match scheduled for Montpellier.

“Following regulatory PCR tests carried out today within the Red and Black workforce, many positive cases for Covid-19 have been detected”, writes the RCT in its press release, without giving more details on those affected.

“The Rugby Club Toulonnais immediately informed the Medical Commission and the Competition Commission of the National Rugby League in order to rule on the holding of the Montpellier-Toulon meeting”, adds the Var club.

The match is scheduled for Sunday at 9:05 p.m. on behalf of the 14th day of the Top 14, in which Montpellier occupies 3rd place. Toulon is 11th. During the 13th day, four out of seven matches, including the match between Toulon and Bordeaux-Bègles, had been postponed because of numerous absences linked to the Covid.

In order to avoid new postponements, still problematic in an already very busy schedule, the National Rugby League (LNR) has modified its Covid protocol: 23 players available, including at least 15 professionals and six from the front line, are now sufficient to play .
