Tough Mondays, tough on morale

If you put on, one after the other, 5e Rank, Witches, Reasonable doubt And Alerts on Monday evenings, there is a good chance that a psychiatrist will diagnose you with an adjustment disorder with anxiety-depressive mood.

No light therapy lamp will extricate you from this fictitious darkness. No pharmaceutical pill will fill your serotonin banks. You’re wasting your breath. Farewell, joy of life and carefreeness.

Don’t get me wrong. Consumed individually, these four Quebec series deliver the goods by enveloping us in big, bloody dramas. But put together, ouch, it’s a fatal sequence for morale.

I repeated the experience of watching the four shows in a row this week and I quickly reached my quota of survivalist terrorists in Prévost, in the Laurentians, and mafia traffickers of human organs on a farm in the Montérégie.

Completely absorbed by Reasonable doubt from Radio-Canada (we’ll talk about its traumatic finale soon), I caught up in Alerts at TVA, which recently wrapped up a particularly murky plot, that of a 12-year-old preteen, Alice Tanguay (Juliette Aubé), radicalized by her conspiratorial stepfather Pat Lamarre (Pierre-Paul Alain), then transformed into a human bomb. With dynamite belt and detonator, yes, ma’am.

Alerts recently wrapped up a particularly murky plot.

The Cerbère squad of the SQ moved sky and sewer pipes to locate Alice, whom her grandmother Lucie (Marie-Chantal Perron) forced to participate in Mini Miss competitions, a big memory of JonBenét Ramsay here.

Indoctrinated by ex-soldier Pat Lamarre and trained to become a child martyr, Alice spoke like the disciplines of Anatole Dufresne (Martin Drainville) in The escapewho hated the manipulative government and the damn pigs (read: the police).

Tiny mercenary Alice was waiting for the “day of light”, where she was supposed to blow herself up in an energy research center north of Montreal. Heavy, you say? Metal, yes.

Alice’s rescue turned into a shootout, where Captain Stéphanie Duquette (Sophie Prégent), in a heroic gesture, took a bullet in the head to protect the sixth grade child. Plunged into a coma for a week, the future does not look very “wow” for our valiant Captain Duquette, pillar of the TVA soap opera since its launch in February 2021.

The new investigation by the Cerberus unit, with slightly less dark overtones, is totally up my alley. SQ detective sergeants are searching to determine how a contestant on the popular reality show Love mefavorite influencer Justin Calixte (Samuel Gauthier), was able to die live in prime time.

Vegan, sporty, positive and supposedly sober, the handsome Justin collapsed in the living room of the mansion, seized by convulsions, while he was preparing to win this fifth edition of Love me in front of her great rival, the beautician Corinne (Jeanne Roux-Côté).

In a turnaround similar to the Toxic Amigos fiasco ofDouble occupationthe producer of Love meVirginie Dumontier (Elizabeth Duperré), vaping and condom: the sponsors flee, the social networks are on fire and we still have to deliver a show to the broadcaster, despite the death of the star participant.

Opioids were found in Justin Calixte’s vitamin bottle. And the list of suspects in this possible murder is not infinite, because there are only four candidates left in the real-life TV adventure: social work student Florence (Naïla Louidort), nursing technician Louis (Patrick-Emmanuel Abellard), the ex-child actor Thomas (Alexandre Bacon) as well as Corinne, the shady beautician on the run.

I would like this story of Love me never loops, thanks. In fact, I would watch more Love me that The island of loveit seems.

On the side of Witches, the authors happily dip into the cauldron of trauma of the three half-sisters who grew up in the sect of the kingdom of the triple goddess, in Sainte-Piété. What looked like an ordinary hippie commune becomes a museum of horrors, complete with sweat tent, torture chamber and sterilization equipment worthy ofAmerican Horror Story: Asylum.

Medical assistance in dying for the good Camil (Roger La Rue), anorexia of an 11 year old child (poor Alistair!) and murder of a baby disguised as missing (the host Alain Leclerc will pay!), it’s far from being the festival of gaiety in Sainte-Piété.

On the good news side, the weird postman Fred (Maxime Genois), also a night janitor at the hospital, has added a string to his bow: he paints works of art, huge murals inspired by the collage technique . Some people have all the talents, it’s unfair. Also, the exciting pickleball matches will resume between the teenager Charlotte (Maé Jenkins) and her mysterious companion Christian (Thomas Vallières), there is still hope.

Just as there remains hope for chef Pascal Faubert (Antoine Durand) in 5e Rankalmost beaten to death with brass knuckles by the Valmont mafia.

In the episode broadcast Monday evening, Pascal Faubert began to breathe on his own. Miracle ! We agree that the famous restaurant Le Tourneur would not have survived the death of its founder.

The death of Pascal Faubert would also have torpedoed the tempting association between Fou de Food (or the Goulet farm?) and the multinational Fresh & Family, which occupies all of Marie-Louise’s (Martine Francke) mental space.

Valmont survived the Russian underworld, the Italian mafia and serial killer Marc Trempe (Marc Béland), but the withdrawal of Fresh & Family, oh no, that just wouldn’t have gone down in the village. We take the suspense where it comes, friends. And we keep our morale high, despite these gray Mondays.
