The violent storms of the weekend of June 29 and 30 caused the death of four people in Switzerland. Many people were also evacuated to Italy.
In Noasca (Italy), a waterfall transformed into an impressive mass of water which engulfed the village. During the weekend of Saturday June 29 and Sunday June 30, torrential rains unleashed rivers and led to devastating mudslides on both sides of the Italian-Swiss border. In Ticino (Switzerland), a bridge could not withstand the violence of the waves, cutting off access to a valley. Higher up, the Rhône overflowed. Swiss police woke residents in the middle of the night to evacuate them.
In Valais (Switzerland), a man was found dead in his hotel. He was probably surprised by the rising waters. Debris litters the ground everywhere. Four people died in Switzerland over the weekend and rescuers are still searching for the missing. In Italy, helicopters continued the evacuation of 700 people on Monday morning in an area cut off from the world by landslides.
