Toronto Zoo: Sorrowful hearts can name a cockroach for Valentine’s Day

Does the particularly unpleasant memory of a former date come back to haunt you as Valentine’s Day approaches? The Toronto Zoo is giving you the chance to exact revenge by naming a cockroach in their honor.

The campaign launched Monday allows interested people to name one of these unsavory insects – but with a great ecological role, underlines the zoo –, for a donation of $ 25.

“We know that Valentine’s Day isn’t fun for everyone, and we’ve been inspired by zoos in the United States with similar initiatives,” Kelsey Godel, who coordinates the programs, told the Toronto Star. gift of the Toronto Zoo.

Although the initiative was launched for Valentine’s Day, donors are invited to name their insect in the name of anyone who bothers them, whether it’s an ex, a family member, a former friend or even a boss.

However, the zoo reserves the right to refuse offensive or hateful terms and names.

Concretely, people who decide to name a cockroach will receive a digital certificate with their name and that of their cockroach, which can be transmitted to the unloved being. However, it will not be possible to visit the adopted cockroach, which would be very difficult to recognize among its congeners.
