Toronto | Union Station confined due to shooting

(Toronto) The Toronto Police Service temporarily locked down Union Station on Saturday night following a shooting that left one person dead.

Updated yesterday at 11:18 p.m.

Duty Officer Paul Krawczyk said patrol officers responded to numerous reports of a shooting near the busy downtown train station around 7:30 p.m., shortly after the Blue Jays’ game at Rogers Center had ended.

One of the two identified suspects was reportedly seen trying to flee on a southbound train. The station was placed in confinement when the second suspect was seen heading towards the station.

Paul Krawczyk indicated that no suspect had been arrested, but he said he believed that the victim was targeted in this case and that there is no danger for the population.

Train and bus service was able to resume at Union Station late in the evening.

Officer Krawczyk says he has no details to provide about the victim or a description of the suspects, but he invites anyone with information related to this case to contact the police.

Earlier in the evening on Saturday, the police authorities had announced the containment of the station in a message posted on Twitter.

It mentioned that shots had been reported at the intersection of York Street and Bremner Boulevard, where the busy public transit station is located.

At this time, the injured man was in critical condition. He later succumbed to his injuries.
