Toronto Raptors | Another monthly honor for rookie Scottie Barnes

For the second time in a row, the NBA East Rookie of the Month is Scottie Barnes of the Toronto Raptors.

The honor awarded on Monday covers March and April.

Since 1er March, Barnes averaged 16.6 points, 7.6 rebounds, four assists and a steal, in 36.1 minutes.

Over 22 games, Barnes had five games of at least 20 points.

He was the author of 19 points in five occasions.

On March 18, he set career highs with 31 points and 17 rebounds, in an overtime loss to the Lakers.

Barnes was drafted fourth last year.

He averaged 15.3 points, 7.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.1 steals, in 74 games.

Barnes is the only league rookie to rank in the top 5 in points, rebounds, assists, steals and blocks this season.

The Raptors will open the playoffs Saturday night in Philadelphia.

Also on Monday, the NBA announced the East Player of the Week is Joel Embiid, of the 76ers.

The league scoring champion this season (30.6), Embiid averaged 38.7 points and 14.3 rebounds last week.

Other Sixers who have been NBA scoring champions have been Wilt Chamberlain and Allen Iverson.

The Cameroonian is the first center to win the NBA scoring championship since Shaquille O’Neal in 1999-2000.
