(Toronto) The Toronto Maple Leafs placed goaltender Matt Murray on the injured reserve Thursday.
The 28-year-old goaltender had been struggling with an ankle since last month. He was supposed to start the Jan. 27 game against the Ottawa Senators, but his name was dropped from the roster at the last minute.
Murray also missed a few games early in the season with a groin injury.
A two-time Stanley Cup champion with the Pittsburgh Penguins, Murray is 11-5-2 this season with a .911 save percentage and 2.77 goals-against average.
The Leafs, who have relied heavily on Ilya Samsonov in recent weeks, recalled Joseph Woll from the American League.
In addition, the Leafs have announced the signing of defenseman Conor Timmins. The two-year pact will net $1.1 million per season for the 24-year-old guard, who has one goal and 11 assists in 18 games in Toronto.
Timmins was acquired from the Arizona Coyotes on November 23.
