(Toronto) A horror film starring Demi Moore and a dark comedy starring Paul Rudd and Tim Robinson are among the films scheduled for the nightly schedule Midnight Madness of the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF).
This year’s lineup, which features unusual Hollywood stars and obscure oddities, will open with the North American premiere of The Substance by Coralie Fargeat. Presented in competition at Cannes last May, the film won the award for best screenplay.
Demi Moore plays an aging television actress who enrolls in a mysterious body-enhancing program to boost her flagging career.
In Friendshipactor Tim Robinson plays an ordinary guy whose suburban life is shaken up by a new neighbor (Paul Rudd), who sets off a cascade of events.
This TIFF night program also includes Ickan alien movie set in a high school, and It Doesn’t Get Any Better Than This. Thibault Emin has made a feature-length version of his acclaimed 2007 short film Elseabout a strange epidemic that causes people to blend into their surroundings.
Other films on the program include: Dead Talents Society by Taiwanese director John Hsu, The Gesuidouz by Japanese punk director Kenichi Ugana, and The Shadow Straysthe latest film from Indonesian director Timo Tjahjanto, hailed for his 2018 thriller The Night Comes For Us.
TIFF takes place this year from September 5 to 15.
