(Toronto) The stars are expected to return this year to the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), after the TIFF red carpet was deserted by Americans last year because of the actors’ and writers’ strike.
Movie stars Amy Adams, Cate Blanchett and Will Ferrell, as well as music stars Pharrell Williams, Bruce Springsteen and Elton John are among the celebrities expected to hit the red carpet in Toronto in September.
TIFF organizers are promising a star-studded edition this year, unveiling lineup additions Monday that include the world premieres of Angelina Jolie’s war drama Without Bloodsurvival suspense Eden by Ron Howard and Gia Coppola’s drama starring Pamela Anderson, The Last Showgirl.
Springsteen is expected to be in town for the world premiere of Road Diary: Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band by Thom Zimny, chronicling the behind-the-scenes preparations for the Boss’ final tour.
We will also be treated to the world premiere of the “ biopic » by Morgan Neville Piece by Piecewhich traces the life of Pharrell Williams through a Lego animation.

Elton John is expected to support the already announced film, Elton John: Never Too Latewhich promises to “lift the veil” on the life of the British icon.
Canadian films in the spotlight
On the Quebec side, we will see the world premiere of Sophie Deraspe’s most recent film, Shepherdfilmed in the Alps.
TIFF also announced the North American premieres of Canadian films that have already screened at other festivals, including Cannes: the metaphysical horror drama The Shrouds (The shroudsin French) by David Cronenberg, Can I Get A Witness? by Ann Marie Fleming, the detective thriller The Order by Justin Kurzel and the dark comedy Rumors by Guy Maddin, Evan Johnson and Galen Johnson.
French actress and director Julie Delpy will present the world premiere of her new film, The Barbariansstarring Sandrine Kiberlain and Laurent Lafitte. We will also see the Canadian premiere of Jacques Audiard’s most recent film, Emilia PerezJury Prize at Cannes in May.
The Toronto International Film Festival runs this year from September 5 to 15.
