(Toronto) A documentary about Elton John and a horror comedy starring Amy Adams about a stay-at-home mom whose life becomes surreal will have their world premieres at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF).
Elton John: Never Too Late promises to “pull back the curtain” on the megastar’s life and is co-directed by R. J Cutler and Toronto’s David Furnish, Elton John’s husband.
Nightbitchby Marielle Heller, joins a lineup including the South Korean spy film Harbindirected by Woo Min-ho, and the animated sci-fi adventure The Wild Robotdirected by Chris Saunders with the voice of Lupita Nyong’o who plays a shipwrecked robot.
The festival also plans to honor Toronto filmmaker David Cronenberg with the Norman Jewison Career Achievement Award and Amy Adams with a performer award at the Tribute Awards ceremony on September 8. Ottawa native Sandra Oh was named honorary chair of the gala.
Mike Flanagan’s sci-fi drama The Life of Chuckstarring Tom Hiddleston and based on Stephen King’s 2020 short story, as well as the coming-of-age film Rez Balldirected by Sydney Freeland and produced by LeBron James, will also be at the festival.
The 49e edition of TIFF will take place from September 5 to 15.
