Toronto Blue Jays | Big night for Justin Turner, breaking 2-2 deadlock in eighth

(Toronto) Justin Turner hit three singles including the one that broke a 2-2 deadlock in the eighth on Wednesday, allowing the Toronto Blue Jays to cruise to a 6-3 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays.

Turner hit the big hit against Jason Adam (4-2), driving in George Springer.

The Blue Jays picked up four runs in the eighth, cruising to their second win in three games.

“We kind of lost control from there,” Rays manager Kevin Cash admitted.

Vladimir Guerrero hit his fifth home run in six games, this one a solo home run.

He also drove in the first run of the game with a single in the first inning.

In 24 games, Guerrero has 10 homers, nine doubles and 31 RBIs, maintaining a batting average of .351.

That’s because of better choices about when to swing, said Blue Jays manager John Schneider.

“He looks so dangerous every time he comes to bat,” he said. “He’s starting to understand what shots he can make great contact on.”

After Turner’s single in the eighth, Daulton Varsho hit a run-scoring single, Turner crossed the plate on a passed ball and Varsho scored on an error.

Varsho made a great catch for the third time in three games. He jumped to the left-field fence to catch a throw by Jose Caballero in the fifth.

Genesis Cabrera (3-2) pitched in the eighth inning.

Yariel Rodriguez allowed two runs and two hits in five 2-thirds innings, striking out six batters.

The game was played in front of 32,276 people at the Rogers Centre.

The final game of the series will feature Taj Bradley (5-4) and Chris Bassitt (8-8) starting pitchers on Thursday.

Bradley is 4-0 since mid-June. The game will start at 3:07 p.m.
