(Toronto) Suspended since the start of the season, Toronto Argonauts quarterback Chad Kelly met with Canadian Football League (CFL) commissioner Randy Ambrosie on Friday.
Two sources working within the circuit confirmed the meeting to The Canadian Press. Kelly missed the first nine games of the season after receiving his suspension before the campaign.
The sources spoke on condition of anonymity because the CFL has not publicly announced that Ambrosie is meeting with Kelly.
According to TSN, no decision has been made on Kelly’s possible return to play.
On May 7, the CFL suspended Kelly for two preseason games and at least nine regular-season games after he violated the league’s gender-based violence policy.
The decision came after an independent investigation into a lawsuit filed against Kelly and the Argonauts by a former team strength and conditioning coach. The parties reached a settlement in mediation.
The Argonauts defeated the Calgary Stampeders 39-25 on Friday night in their ninth game of the season. They are currently on a bye week and will return to action Thursday against the Saskatchewan Roughriders.
Nick Arbuckle has been the team’s trusted quarterback so far.
Kelly, 30, won the 2023 CFL MVP award after leading the Argonauts to a 16-2 record. They were eliminated by the Montreal Alouettes in a 38-17 loss in the Eastern Conference final.
