The sky is likely to be unleashed on Thursday with the arrival of a low-pressure system which will bring in its wake a lot of instability and precipitation, with stormy episodes over southwestern and central Quebec.

Environment Canada issued a tornado warning for the Gatineau region at 1:10 p.m. It went back to standby around 2:30 p.m.

Another tornado warning was issued shortly before 3 p.m. for the Lachute-Saint-Jérôme and Vaudreuil-Soulanges-Huntingdon sectors. However, it was lifted around 4:30 p.m.

The regions of Montreal, Laval and Mascouche were also targeted by a tornado alert shortly before 4 p.m.

“Despite the strength of the storm, no major damage has been caused to municipal infrastructure so far,” said Mayor Valérie Plante in a tweet.

The extreme weather was moving towards the Mauricie region at the end of the day. A tornado warning was even issued for the Trois-Rivières sector, but has since been canceled.

In addition to the showers that will possibly be sustained in certain sectors, the return of this stormy trend, accompanied by strong gusts, will lead to a risk of tornado in the Ottawa Valley and that of the St. Lawrence River.

Eastern Quebec will be luckier, since it will be spared the mayhem of this stormy episode, at least until Friday morning, when the mercury will drop under a partially overcast sky.

On Friday, the weather will be generally sunny in southwestern Quebec, especially in Montreal, where it will be 26 degrees, but showers will be present in the central and eastern sectors of the province.
