After four months of waiting, Picardy fishermen can resume pike fishing. It’s the reopening of the season, this Saturday, April 30, and for the amateurs it is a great moment.
Enthusiasm visible in stores
Delighted to be able to catch this large predatory freshwater fish, many amateurs go to specialized stores to replenish their stock of equipment. This is the case at Pacific Pêche in Amiens where Denis is assistant manager.
“We all miss pike fishinghe explains, so even if we all have boxes full of lures, we want new equipment to start the season in style.
He advises Jonathan who has already done several stores to find happiness and assures with a laugh: “Pike fishing is a thing for enthusiasts“.

Great moment for freshwater anglers
And this reopening more generally marks the start of high season for freshwater anglers like Matthew. He has been practicing for 30 years, competes and like many young people, he is streetfisher, literally street fisherman.
“It’s a rather dynamic fishery, instead of waiting for the fish, we hunt it down, we go and get it”he explains.
But no question of killing his catches : “I release themsays Matthew. This is the case for many young fishermen, we call it “No kill”.
Like the others Mathieu has planned to go pike fishing this Saturday but be careful there are rules as reminded by the federation de la Somme for fishing and the protection of the aquatic environment on his Facebook account.
