TOP 14 (J4) – Brive leaves Castres without points for the first time this season (12-6)

The Brivists leave Castres without a point tonight. The CAB loses 12 to 6 against Castres. Very quickly put under pressure by the foot of Dumora, the Castres like the Brivistes did not manage to deploy the game, despite the dry conditions at the start of the match. Nevertheless, the CAB always remains within gunshot of the Tarnais, reducing the gap so that it does not increase above six points. The castres do not benefit from sequence of play because of their indiscipline and their faults of hand.

In the rain in the second half, the Brivistes did not have the ball and above all could not get out of their camp. The scrum and the touch fail several times and give Julien Dumora the opportunity to take the points. But the Castres striker misses the mark and a last sequence of play allows the young Tom Raffy to take three points. Unfortunately, he fails to allow his team to get the defensive bonus.

Post-match declas

Lucas Da Silva, hooker: “It was a tight game, but there was room to do something. We have not been, I think, at the level of what we have shown in recent weeks. Castres played well, they were effective in the second period and we lost a bit of speed in the second period. It’s not at the level of what we’ve been showing since the start of the season and logically, we can’t win this match. We are not far from taking a point. But I think that the point, we can recover it largely before this last penalty attempted at the last minute. You have to digest and look at what went well, also take the positive because there were some before quickly switching to the analysis work in Bayonne to prepare as well as possible to welcome them next week.

Jeremy Davidson, coach: “It wasn’t a very thrilling game. Of course the weather in the second half didn’t help. I think both defenses got the better of the attacks. I’m disappointed with our discipline. We were at twelve penalties today, we may have been under ten in recent weeks, so we gave up too many points. Afterwards, in the second half, our kicking game was a little weak, so that meant that we didn’t Didn’t have many chances to score with the Castres. But hey, it was a very, very tough match, very committed. I’m happy for the five players from the CDF (Training Center) who played tonight: they did a great performance. But of course it’s frustrating. The bonus point would have been legit.”

The good point: the return of Tom Raffy

It was not a gift: Enzo Hervé’s ankle injury in the 30th minute precipitated the return of young Tom Raffy, 18. An easy first step with a foot game which was the key to the match as the staff had announced. Somehow, he tried to make the CAB survive. A very offensive comeback and like his team a calmer second half. “We can already see that he was not lost on the ground. With Enzo’s injury, we hope he can have playing time to progress.” underlined Jeremy Davidson.
