Too old, Joe Biden, really?

The man is 80 years old. He is president of the United States. The oldest in the history of the country, yes, we all know that. Biden has succeeded in turning around his country’s economy. Under his reign, unemployment fell and family incomes improved. But he is too old, according to 70% of Americans who voted in a recent poll. This is also the refrain that the Republicans continue to promote. According to them, Biden is too old and senile.

It is clear that Joe Biden is a victim of ageism and that he must live with this reality every day. And the closer the 2024 presidential elections get, the more we will hear that Joe is too old. He was already said to be too old in 2021 at 78, when he officially became 46e President of the United States.

Meanwhile in Quebec, personalities from the artistic field show us that old age is an abstract concept. When I see Denise Filiatrault who, at 92 years old, acts as artistic director of the Théâtre du Rideau vert. Or even Béatrice Picard (94 years old) and Louise Latraverse (83 years old), who continue to perform on stage or on television. Or Claude Gauthier who, at 84, recently launched his 17e career album (Friendships). Can we not then say that growing old is not synonymous with wasting away?

I will say here that those who continue to be active in our society after 80 years, those who continue to create, run businesses, etc., are all carried by a wind of youth.

Didn’t Félix Leclerc write: “It’s not because I’m an old apple tree that I give away old apples. »

So, it is not because Joe Biden is old that he cannot bring new ideas, that he cannot contribute to moving his country towards better days.
