On Wednesday morning, the mayoral candidate reiterated that he wanted to organize a “trucking summit” for the first 100 days of a possible term. On the agenda: the identification of time slots outside which delivery by heavy goods vehicle would be prohibited.
“Our top priority is to protect the most vulnerable, pedestrians,” said Denis Coderre during a press conference held at the corner of Berri and Ontario streets. “Ultimately, it is the entire territory that we must secure. ”
In addition to the time slots for delivery, Mr. Coderre would like his summit to also look at the possibility of requiring carriers to equip their trucks with 360-degree cameras that eliminate blind spots, as well as side bars that prevent victims. crash from sliding under the wheels of the trucks.
He refused to blame police for uneven enforcement of regulations already in place to deny transit trucks access to many residential streets.
Denis Coderre was flanked by various local candidates, including his aspiring mayor of the Ahuntsic-Cartierville borough, Hadrien Parizeau.
“We have to find a balance between the importance of economic development, the importance of delivery for traders […] and secure the movements of the most vulnerable, those who are not in a passenger compartment, ”he said. “We start from a general view that we must reduce the number of trucks in town, that we must reduce their size. ”
