Saul “Canelo” Alvarez had set himself quite the challenge by moving up a weight class to face WBA 175lb champion Dmitry Bivol, but the order seemed too heavy for the Mexican, who is declared defeated by unanimous decision, Saturday in Las Vegas.
The three judges thus gave identical cards of 115-113 to the advantage of Bivol (20-0-0, 11 K.-O.).
For a rare time in his career, Alvarez (57-1-2, 39 KOs) seemed unanswered in the ring, he who, more often than not, could only see the talent of his opponent, even showing signs of frustration at times.
The weight difference also had its impact on the result, Alvarez being used to fighting in the 168 lb category, where he holds the WBA, WBC and IBF belts.
